About Slither.io

Slither.io works because its single rule produces real strategy. You die by touching another snake, so the way to kill is to get your body in front of theirs, which means a large snake is powerful and also slow to turn, and a small snake can trap one by cutting a tight circle. That is the entire game and it is genuinely well balanced.

It launched in 2016 at the peak of the .io wave and outlasted almost all of it. No account, no download, matches you can leave at any moment. It is the best example on this site of a design that could not be improved by adding anything.
