Deep Rock Galactic

Deep Rock Galactic's central trick is that the caves are fully destructible, and each of the four classes moves through them differently. The Driller cuts tunnels, the Engineer builds platforms, the Gunner fires ziplines, the Scout grapples ahead and lights the place up. That means a squad does not just fight the level, it rearranges it, and when an extraction goes wrong, the route back out is one you carve yourself.

It is also unusually good-natured for a co-op shooter. There is no competitive mode, no scoreboard to lose an argument over, and the difficulty scales to party size so a duo gets a real mission rather than an empty one. Ghost Ship has supported it with free content for years, and the game has aged well because its systems, not its content, are the point.
